This is the tool I made and used to successfully find flat in Berlin. The trick is basically that you need to answer as fast as possible to each ad.

  • ImmoPi scans in realtime various portals
  • Sends a webpush notification to you phone or desktop computer as soon an ad that meets your criteria is published
  • It's free
  • hosted in a raspi4

Would you recommend Berlin over a city like Leipzig?

Don't know, I haven't lived in Leipzig but I can say finding a place in Berlin is pretty demanding

Depends on your personal needs.

Berlin has more diversity, but you spend a lot of your time in public Transport since its big and you cannot choose where you live (you are just happy to get an Apartment no matter where in the city).

Leipzig is small enough to do everything by bike and even with public transport visiting ftiends in another quarter is not a long ride. Leipzig is still big enough to have nice bars and Clubs and so on. But its not as diverse as Berlin. If you dont speak german its easier in Berlin i guess.
