Prime Minister Mark Carney says the federal government is entering into contract negotiations with Saab to buy a fleet of surveillance aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force.

The federal government has previously said it’s in the market for six radar aircraft to help protect Canada against threats.

Saab produces the planes in a joint partnership with bombardier, based off of the Global 6500 business jet.

We are stuck with 16 F35's plus parts & servicing at least. Since i don't think the CUSMA deal is long for this world, it's going to be Gripens for the rest of our requirement i'm pretty sure.

hopefully, but we all know trump will go (metaphorically) nukular if we go with Gripen. They already tried planting the seeds of "but there's no way it could interoperate with modern planes as part of NORAD and NATO!" which, of course they can. and "you could never possibly afford to have more than 1 type of plane! that's just crazy talk!" which is nonsense, except for the insane requirements for care and feeding of the F35s taking an oversized proportion of available resources…
