Nor should it. However, I wouldn't discount that as being a negotiation tactic either. You know, act like you've got all the cards so your opponent tips their hand.

The reality is all countries outside the EU get "special treatment", they've all got slightly different arrangements. It's why people said things like "I want a swiss style deal".

For all its flaws, the UK does actually have a lot to offer the EU and vice-versa, it's in bothd interests to form closer relationships.
