...i think we're talking across each other: my point is that the majority of american workers currently commute home after dark in the dead of winter (as do i at 30° latitude, with most of the population north of me), so more than half of the country don't even see the sun set...

5pm is standard, throw in 30-45 minute commute, I'd wager roughly half of americans have better conditions, half worse.
