any alternatives that don't require self hosting? i don't have the money or storage for that

you most certainly have the money and storage for whatever keepass-relative plus syncthing, because it uses a couple megabytes of storage at most and doesn't need any central server.

Proton just passed their audit. I haven’t really used it so I can’t comment on how it is.

not really a fan of proton either tbh. i paid for a year of their VPN but i'm getting mullvad next year so like, i'm kind of in the middle of also getting away from them.

I use Proton's full suite. Bitwarden's browser extension is better iLO, but on the whole there's nothing Bitwarden does that Proton's can't do.

Keepass.. Is free and always was

Store database in the cloud and it syncs with all your devices

[-] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

without built-in syncing and browser auto-fill, that's not really an alternative

[-] jfx@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 4 days ago

Both can be had with keepaassxc browser addons and the right settings. Denying that is just bs.

if you're tech savvy that's not an issue. I have a family account on bit warden though, and introducing more hurdles for my family members to use it would absolutely be a nonstarter. They'd go back to post it notes and a notebook the same day.

The lack of tech abilities.. And this isn't, is quite disheartening since computers have been commonplace for 25 years

Firefox has a browser autofill plugin.

And mobile browser can install desktop plugins.
