I hate taking taxis and I never used Uber or a shit like this. Give me a bike, or a bus, but not a fucking car driven by someone else.
I can't understand people using Uber.
Huh? What's wrong with an Uber or taxi? I don't get what you don't understand about it. It will take you exactly where you want to go.
Some examples of where this mode of transportation has a big advantage:
I hate cars. They kill people, animals and the environment. They make climate change worse. They are noisy. Taxis and Uber are just a way to perpetuate car dependency and avoid investing in public transit.
I moved to a metropolis just so I can avoid using cars and have reliable public transit. I even cycle 100km to national parks.
Cars are bad, mmm'kay.
Problem is a bike won’t be as efficient or realistic for a long distance. A bus takes too many stops for longer distances and isn’t ideal in cold/hot conditions for waiting.
My job sent us out of town for a week and paid for Uber rides because the trip from the airport was over 20 miles. Too long for a bicycle and it wasn’t going to be fun to wait for a bus in the pouring rain where everyone was already crowded under the only shaded area. Not to mention the thought of doing public transportation when Covid was much more rampant.
Also better in bad areas. Public transportation in a bad neighborhood is a great way to get mugged or assaulted, especially if you’re a woman to be the target of some really nasty abuse, best outcome is verbal and worse is physical. And bicycle is about the same. People have easy access to assault you and catch you from behind while stopped. Not that you won’t from an Uber/taxi ride, but the risk is lower.
