Why do they always frame with as you wanting it when its them beings the one that want it? My mother does the exact same.

I figured the thought would be better articulated: "I am gonna make some cheese toast for myself. Do you want some while I'm at it?"

It's a polite "do you want one too?" Rather than saying that they want one

Hunger is the best flavouring, company is the second best.

If you're not actually hungry and not eating together, snacking isn't always worth it.

Yeah, often it's a "I could go for [thing], but not enough to get up, but if wife wants it too that'll be enough to get me up"
