Edit: We are actually not better than this. Anti-intellectualism is on the rise, wearing the clothes of intellectualism. The concept of nuance itself is facing total annihilation. Discussion of political and social matters resembles team sports more than any proper discourse. Expect the worst from people and you'll rarely be surprised.
