Recently someone started trying to bring large Lemmy instances down by posting CSAM on large instances with open sign ups, as a result the hexbear mods made it so that images from untrusted instances wouldn't be shown to hexbear users to avoid hexbear users having to see stuff like that and to reduce the mods workload, idk whether its a temporary measure or not but for now all images from untrusted instances are just replaced with the words *removed externally hosted image* on our end
Thank you, that makes sense.
I had to see and report some offensive material on that line, and while it was quickly removed by our admins I don't think there's any way to actually prevent it.
Apparently there's been some discussion on lemm.ee of getting an AI that will automatically detect CSAM and delete it automatically but idk whether anything will come of it
So in other words our chinese censorship is censoring american freedom?
