What ID are you providing for web hosting? Literally never done this, just payables info.

I can't remember the hosts name, but I did get asked to send my DL to a hosting service. I did a free trial and tried to sign up, at the end I was asked to send a picture of my DL. I told them I would find a host that knew what they were doing, and deleted my account. This was probably five or six years ago, too. I do agree though, no other host has tried to pull this on me.

I needed my driver's license to prove that I was who I said I was with my credit card with ionos.

Crazy. I had Hetzner, Vultr, Linode, Rackspace (back in the day when they did that), never had to prove my identity.

Hetzner requires ID these days, not sure if it's for all new accounts or based on some sketchy algorithm but it's happened to more than one person I know.

Maybe things changed?

Hetzner asked me for my passport. I just signed up yesterday out of curiosity.

I guess so. Jeez. As of a month ago, Vultr and Linode did not.
