Well, if i had any interest in answering phones, I wouldn't have dismantle them in the first place. Or, for younger folks, the risk of losing contact for installing a custom OS in your phone is not that big.

Reminds me of when I got my last new Android phone (I went to the dark side 10 years ago). They asked if I wanted them to set it up for me. I told them I don't even want them to turn the bloody thing on. They said why. I said when I get it home, I'm wiping the data, partitions and all, and I'm installing custom firmware. They said that'll void the warranty. I said fuck the warranty. (Okay, no I didn't, but that was the intent of what I said.) I knew the phone could be made to run plain Jane stock Android (which you could not easily get in 2014). So I never ran the ad-infested shithole of a half-arsed Android fork it came with. By the time I booted it up, it just ran "Android." I think it came with KitKat which was... 2.3? 2.4? And that's what I ran, but the stock version based on AOSP. The "Google Play Edition." This was 2 years before the Pixel, mind you.

(Any old-school Android users wanna guess what phone I had?)
