Is it true they paid people to see it? It might be a joke, but I heard they were giving out free tickets plus $50. And people were required to stay for the entire film in order to get the money.

They have bought 1000s of copies of their own books to put them on the NYT bestseller list. This is a legitimate question that I would like to know the answer to as well.
those are more just forms of money laundering
It's both money laundering AND a way to guarantee that the crappy books of their ideological allies all appear wildly successful no matter how few people ACTUALLY read them.
That's how Ben Shapiro is technically a bestselling author in spite of having been incapable of speaking for a minute without spouting a logical fallacy since he was a teenager.
Sounds like they might have had bots buying tickets, as no human would select the seats that have been chosen.
I doubt anyone sat in the seats.
