No, I don't think he's to the left of Nutomic, which makes my reaction to his faults all the more violent because I expect better of him. And saying I know Rimu personally would be an exaggeration (else, I would have known about his crass accusations of organ farming), but I know enough about him to believe he's not a plague rat or a transphobe. By itself, that was enough to make me see Piefed as a good alternative to Lemmy.
I can sympathize with what you're saying, but I don't quite understand how Nutomic being wrong about trans people and COVID is completely unacceptable when those are things the vast majority of the world's population are wrong about, but Rimu gets a pass for believing anti-Chinese propaganda that the vast majority of people aren't racist enough to even entertain being true. Maybe transphobia and COVID denial makes you unsafe in a way that sinophobia doesn't, but Lemmy has some of the best established trans and COVID conscious communities on the English internet outside of Reddit, while piefed is actively making it harder to engage with those communities. Is the juice worth the squeeze?
About Nutomic, it's because it comes from a marxist, as I said I expect better out of him because of that, and because I had trust in him. Having used Lemmy for years when his transphobic views surfaced, I felt betrayed.
About Rimu, he doesn't get a pass. Cowbee made me aware of what he said, and I won't be using Piefed as a result.
Ah, I understand then. Yeah, I can't fault you then. Carry on.
For what it's worth, I have more faith in Nutomic turning around socially than I do Rimu, precisely due to being a Marxist. This doesn't excuse Nutomic in any way, but it's worth considering.
