Friday Movie Night, 8PM EST: British zombie apocalypses 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007)! (CWs inside)

For this Friday Movie Night, prepare for a double dose of British zombie apocalypses, with a back-to-back showing of 28 Days Later (2002) and its first sequel, 28 Weeks Later (2007). The first film sees a man (Cillian Murphy) wake up from a coma, only to discover that Britain has collapsed into zombie-inflicted mayhem, with small bands of survivors doing anything they can to persist amidst the fleshy abominations roaming the land. These films led to a wave of imitators, pretty much launching a new era of zombie stories across every medium imaginable. Danny Boyle directed the first film; he is otherwise best-known for Trainspotting (1996) and Slumdog Millionaire (2008). Juan Carlos Fresnadillo helmed the second film, and he hasn’t done much else of note. Two more installments have been released in the past year, and they will soon be shown, but we should probably show the first two films before then.

By the way, the first film was shot natively with a 480p digital camera, and even the Blu-ray is 480p, so that is why it has a low-res look.

I will be absent for part of the night, though I should arrive later on. Someone else please queue up the films on the ‘tube at 8PM EST.
