I just watched a pretty good video on the topic that I'm pretty sure was posted here a month ago. It's a complex issue but Chinese censors seem to dislike pda in general, with gay characters held to a tighter standard due to institutional homophobia, but the overall vibe is "don't rock the boat" which goes both ways for better and for worse.
Yah, I watched a chinese show a while ago, and the romance was essentially nonexistent, I think there was one kiss for a marriage or marriage proposal and if I remember correctly the married couple slept in separate beds which left me wondering maybe most of the "anti gay" censorship isn't really significantly different from straight and generally pda being discouraged (whether officially or just general the people just generally don't want it so in your face or maybe there is some sort of "protect the children" mentality idk)
Well that doesn't hold true for this either because there are romantic NPCs having a loving moment, in public. And also players get several kinds of really affectionate and suggestive emotes that can be used with one another. No kisses though, just suggestive touching or couple stuff like piggyback or bridal carry I suppose. I don't think it's public displays of affection that seem to be missing but rather public displays of intimacy. No hug emote either.
Oh guildhalls have massage beds with animated massages too which was wild when I found it with a friend.
Don't get me started on the bdsm sex dungeon that exists under a hidden interactable trap door in the corner of the main city map.
Well the vid is clear that despite the trend the enforcement is pretty spotty, and for the high profile censorship that does happen it's always unclear whether it was done by state censors or preemptively by corporations in order to "play it safe" and protect their distribution rights.
I had not found that dungeon yet.
Top left corner of kaifeng, go into the building, open the trap door inside the building.
There is no associated quest. It's just a hidden sex dungeon with a dude obviously RPing as a kidnapped guy to be ""tortured""
in there. You can absolutely miss it because it's hidden.
I've gotta check that out.
you mean this dude? part of a wandering tale quest actually
I do mean this dude! I have not encountered that quest though does it have an rng or complicated trigger?
It's still obviously a sex dungeon with the whips and ropes in the bedroom lmao
it's a wandering tale quest so there's no trigger other than talking with the person who starts the quest
if you check your journal for the list of kaifeng's wandering tales, there should be one called "All Creatures Great and Small"
Basically
the problem with this is that rocking the boat is the only way to get civil liberties like queer rights
In my experience, Chinese people don’t like pda either. I love making my wife blush by kissing her in public. Usually get a playful slap afterwards though.
