Welcome Back to Journaling January 2026

I hope things went well yesterday. Heading into this new year with a (hopefully) long weekend will give you some time to work on getting used to writing daily (if you aren't already). But more to the point, just getting to the point of sitting down and figuring out what to write is a major part of journaling.

Hopefully, these prompts will help you along the way.

But, if you want something different, there are a ton of lists of prompts out there for you to chose from:

So, if you find that one (or more) of the prompts that I am posting here doesn't work for you, maybe there will be something in one of these other lists that will work for you.

Day Two Prompt

This is something that I think about from time to time...but especially at the beginning of a new year. Sometimes there is someone that I've met and interacted with a lot over the last year or several years, and they have done or said something that made me look up to them.

Who Do You Look up to and Why?

Note: These prompts are being supplied as a completely optional item for you to use, if you are stuck on what to write. In fact, you might want to use one of these early prompts later in the month if you get stuck.

Leader Board Update

Normally there would be an image of the TrackBear Leader Board here, but since it’s the first day, there’s no progress to update. Also, I may not post the Leader Board every day. This is more of an event instead of a competition, posting the Leader Board every day seems unnecessary.

Instead, I will supply the link to the Leader Board most days.

Resources

If you haven’t seen them already, we have two (hopefully) helpful documents:

And, if you didn’t have it already, here is the link to the TrackBear App.

Closing Note

If you haven’t posted before, leave us a comment below. We’d love to get to know all the participants in the event.

So, I posted my page count today: 5. I'm still trying to keep with my writing everything in second person. Trying to be more detached about some topics so I can try to look at them objectively - the idea of putting a bit of distance between yourself and the topic seems to be helping some. (These are topics I've never written about in any journal before...)

That's what I'm also doing, but I'm surprised you got 5 pages in. I just did four, and I'll probably do that for a while before I go up in page count.

I'm digging pretty deep into something that has been on my mind for close to five years at this point... That's why I can write so much about it.

Holy cow... yeah, five years is a long time to harbor something like that.
