In a way, Trump is a good thing. He has shown the world that the US is not special, not exceptional, not somehow uniquely qualified for global "leadership" (I use "" because many people have mistaken US RULE for US leadership). We are just as susceptible to the same pitfalls as any person or group of people who find themselves in possession of a great deal of power. I hope that out of this a more democratic global order will emerge. The world does not need one country to stand above the rest and rule the peoples of Earth through military and economic hegemony, even if they do so in a supposedly enlightened and benevolent way, or in furtherance of "Western" or liberal values. What the world needs is international democracy.
