[–] over_clox@lemmy.world [S] 1 point 9 months ago (1 child) Tonight, like right now, we're having numerous lightning strikes, but practically no thunder, and barely any rain. Upper atmosphere lightning maybe? 🤔 This is only the third time in my life I've seen such a weird weather pattern, seems to come along with towns nearby having tornadoes.. 🤷 Southeast Mississippi here... Weird weather like now. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] RBWells@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago (1 child) I don't know if this link will work or doxx me or something, can't figure out any other way to share it but this phenomenon happens sometimes here and it's crazy looking. I was so worried the first time I saw it, it looks like reality is breaking but it's lightning farther away. https://photos.app.goo.gl/hC3UdbMEBCwbPVG1A permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] over_clox@lemmy.world [S] 2 points 9 months ago I saw your video clip 👍 This time tonight, I didn't get to see a good view from the North, but I saw many reflection flashes from the trees and nearby buildings ya know. But.. Practically zero thunder... It seems different than distant lightning though, as you can loosely calculate distant lightning by the time it takes the thunder to arrive, 5 seconds delay is approximately equal to 1 mile.. https://sciencenotes.org/time-between-lightning-and-thunder-how-far-away-is-lightning/ permalink fedilink source parent
