And I think they got it the wrong way, the settlers weren't starving cuz they imposed 'socialism' or whatever system they call it, they imposed the system cuz they were starving, so they turned it to the new best thing, especially when initially the investment and trade with settler colonies was meager.
Besides, they went into some relatively unfamiliar land, with not much property, let alone suitable ones to adapt their livelihood in there, unprepared for local conditions of weather and viruses + bacteria, what do you think was gonna happen?
