Not sure about the first question, but if you get a medical certificate you can't go back to work unless the doctor does a new certificate. Your employer would be breaching their OH&S responsibilities to let you work when a doctor has said you are not fit to do so.

It's a bit awkward. Like I want to go back to work ASAP, mainly as I have no sick leave. But also, I don't want to go and get one day medical certificate and then risk still not feeling up to it tomorrow.
