I made an alt account on a general instance to try and educate libs around misconceptions of socialism. After several days of back and forth with one of them, I finally got to their source of information. Wikipedia, and:

"I haven't read your sources nor will I be doing any reading beyond a cursory glance at a Wikipedia article, despite you presenting 5 different books contradicting my pre-established beliefs. Here's a Wikipedia article and some supposed hearsay anecdotal evidence from 37 years ago. Yes, I'm a socialist, why do you ask?".

I mentioned something to my therapist about how China isn't as bad as we're told, and like, she couldn't seem to comprehend it. Like, what do you mean they're not trapped in the '50s? I don't know, maybe as time moved on maybe China continued advancing? If they were trapped in the fifties, why are they a global superpower now? Also "If I had more faith in mankind, I might be a socialist." Funny, it takes a lot of faith in mankind to be a capitalist. She did express distaste for the current status quo, probably just got that capitalist realism bug.

Reminds me of my Russian mom who left the USSR as a young adult during perestroika. Very cynical, keeps going on about "people these days" being selfish and/or not following the rules and gets very scratched lib about that at times. Also prejudiced against immigrants and working poor while viewing herself as one of the good ones.
