With Unix timestamps it really is as simple as T~2~ - T~1~ (I think) :beanis:

Now localizing those timestamps OTOH...

I suggest we all accept Beijing time. The plurality of the world uses it. Work in Calfornia begins at, what, sunrise at 17.00? And ends 5 hours before sunset at 1.00?

things get murky where leap seconds are involved (murky as in there are a thousand different ways to handle them in practice)
