Maybe I'm misremembering but doesn't Mr. Terrific clearly say that he needs Superman's help to resolve the pocket dimension issue.

When the space imp sphere attacks Superman nonchalantly states that the Justice Gang can handle it. Superman is aware of what problems the Justice Gang can handle.

So if Mr Terrific says he needs Superman, that's the crisis he needs to attend to. To add, he knows the level of response required to handle the foreign crisis and he knows Guy & Hawkgirl can handle it.

Superman's choice was to trust his friends. The power of friendship wins again.
