just a heads up for those into That Sort of Thing: Bunnings are tossing out the TPlink p100 and P150 smart sockets for 16 each, and yes they are fully compatible with home assistant and can run offline once you've set them up.
Just don't try to find them at the moorabbins bunnings, someone already cleared them out.

I just picked up a couple of these myself. The 4 pack is $60, so a little cheaper again if you know you'll use them.
59 to be megaprecise, and I nabbed one of tohse too. They're only the 100s though, so no usage monitoring (I specifically got some 150s for stuff in the server rack)
gonna tie some 100s into leakage sensor macros on HA and have me some fun :)
