I guess if he's from northern England, and by "dinner" means the midday meal, then it makes sense. Otherwise there is no universe where baked potatoes are served for a fancy dinner. Roast potatoes are a part of a fancy dinner, though. The two cooking techniques are similar enough that I think it's not unreasonable to assume, again given the context, that it's just the wrong word. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 year ago (1 child) Nah, I used to work at a country club that did black tie events and weddings, and baked potatoes did show up on the menu. If they wanted them even fancier, they could get the twice baked potatoes even. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago (1 child) Yeah some people just always want a baked potato with a steak. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Apepollo11@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago Fair point, I retract my statement! The idea of using a baked potato as a side sounds bizarre to me, but if it's a thing I guess it's a thing. permalink fedilink source parent
