Violence will hand Trump his Reichstag Fire on a silver platter. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago (1 child) Nonviolent "resistance" is worthless, idk what part of "they will make shit up anyway" you're not understanding permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 child) Trump is itching to enact the Insurrection Act. That will make growing our numbers far more difficult. Meanwhile, you’re advocating losing resisters to incarceration, scaring people back into their homes due to unsafe protest conditions, while giving Trump the justification he needs to strip our rights. Do you always think with your feelings? You should try your brain. Logic and strategy know no cowardice. They only know how to outthink the opposition. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 1 point 1 year ago (1 child) Logic and strategy tell me that Trump is going to enact the Insurrection Act no matter what happens. He has never once in his career been beholden to a fact before. Project 2025 and his own speeches tell us that this is his goal. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 child) Let’s say you’re right. How does reducing our numbers due to fear of unsafe protest conditions and incarcerations help us AT ALL? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 1 point 1 year ago (1 child) How does doing nothing help us at all? Being out in the streets making a big noise means that the government sees their people being upset and the cops out managing the protest could be in danger themselves. Protesting in the streets interrupts business and draws attention. At best, it means someone knows you're pissed off and can't ignore you. At worst, it could scare the cops and politicians away from interfering in the protest - or even, force their hand into enacting the changes you're protesting for - due to concerns about their own personal safety. If you enact a change in government and no one complains about it that means it is A-OK to continue this course of action. Silence is explicit approval when our only means of expressing disapproval is to speak up. If you aren't speaking up then you are expressing that you approve of the events that are unfolding currently. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 1 point 1 year ago (1 child) Who suggested doing nothing? Peaceful protest is resistance that will increase our numbers, just as violent attack will reduce them. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] madjo@feddit.nl 0 points 1 year ago* They will just install a few instigators in any peaceful protest to try to escalate it.
