Not a fan of it by any means, but it shit down ~11 days ago and no one mentioned it.

Every link to something on the instance redirects to this: https://imgur.com/XpxDJTg

Since lemmy posts are links, every image post is now that image.

The admin (local account on lemm.ee https://lemm.ee/u/[email protected] ) said it was because of the harassment culture on lemmy (https://lemm.ee/post/64686772 ), and blamed sunshine and beaver for doing something? (https://lemm.ee/post/63664605/20610349 -- the post this is in reply to is gone, but the comment is in the local copy of the person's profile.)

Anyone know what happened?

“live rent free in their heads” doesn't mean to be aware of someone, it's talking about obsession. That cm lad constantly tries to bring up ".ml" out of nowhere to incite drama, and I just took a glance at their user profile and holy moly it's almost entirely just reposting from lemmy.ml.

Like just look at https://lemmy.world/post/30613970/17403019, a content creator is asking them to stop reposting their work to a certain community and telling them how it's harmful, and cm0002 is just using that as an excuse to handwave it and soapbox. This is unhealthy antisocial behaviour.

Lol

  1. I don't do it out of "no where" I generally stick to relevant threads

  2. I have plenty of my own posts. In general, I try to aim for a 1:2 ratio, for every crosspost I post 2 articles/content that aren't cross-posts (.ml isn't actually all that busy lmao)

  3. lemmy.ml is probably the biggest threat to the long term viability of the Lemmy-verse. It's just so amazing(/S) to come across comments out in the wild on say Reddit that goes along the lines of "I tried that Lemmy place, but it seemed to be just a bunch of tankies/run be Tankies" because they had the misfortune to land on lemmy.ml

stop reposting their work to a certain community and telling them how it's harmful

Yea, harmful to the .ml instance ...which is kinda the whole point of a boycott, to put pressure on the target to either change their ways or fall to irrelevancy

Recap Post

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Please, do explain how the fluff lemmy.ml was relevant to this thread? All I can come up with is "I dislike this instance" and "they are leftists" (or so-called leftists).

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

It's really quite simple, [email protected] was an up and coming Tankie and was absolutely aligning their instance with the Tankie Triad.

As for why .ml is a "Tankie Instance" in general, and documentation of it, you can see the recap post

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I'm not stupid, I know that .m(arxist)l(eninist) is a tankie instance. But what the other user stated, that you've made it your entire personality to bring it up whenever possible, also rings true ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Lol, how else do you spread awareness for something you're passionate about if not to bring it up "whenever possible" (ofc assuming wherever possible meaning, at least tentatively related). Do you not see them doing the exact same thing with their wall of links? LMAO

Also, I just noticed the other user was banned hours ago for Voting manipulation soooo yea take that as you will lolol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I dunno bestie, I have a +36 in Voyager for you, I clearly upvote your stuff often, but the way you acted in that thread was mean-spirited.

[-] [email protected] -2 points 1 day ago

Lol, I mean maybe, but at the same time, what kind of protest/boycott/strike grants exceptions? That would make such things powerless and pointless.

And it is publicly posted content, once you post something publicly anywhere you essentially lose control of it (with the exception of if someone is profiting off it, then you have an avenue of control).

Also, FYI, they were in that thread calling the comm a "shit comm" even though I didn't even mod it and the sopuli instance "toxic" (I think anyways, could have been calling the comm toxic, but they never clarified)

[-] [email protected] 2 points 21 hours ago
  1. What exception? Let people make their own decisions and you can make yours.
  2. That's not how copyright works.
  3. Still, I agree that content should be able to be reposted. Except when the artist specifically says to you "don't repost my work" as has happened here.
  4. Respect artists.
  5. I'm fairly sure they were calling you toxic, and I'd agree that your behaviour here has been, especially as it seems they've asked you before to not repost their work.
  6. Seriously, what exception? You're protesting against .ml, targeting every single user that interacts with it is petty at best, and toxic at worst. It's not going to endear people to your cause.

Since Lemmy doesn’t suck down data like corporate social media does simply lurking doesn’t contribute to an instance’s growth.

And when you crosspost that content elsewhere, with no comments or upvoting on the original, it diminishes that instance’s power and influence just a bit and contributes to a more decentralized Lemmy-verse

We should be doing the same with .world, not because of toxic propaganda pushing admins, but just so that content is more decentralized in general. But I’m just 1 person who refuses to automate it, soo I can only do so much lmao

On Lemmy, big comms, user counts and content are an instances influence, the more you have the less others will be willing to defederate from you. Kinda why .ml can get away with so much crap

https://lemmy.world/comment/16389208

I'm cross-posting content from .ml comms to the nearest non-.ml comm as part of ongoing boycotting efforts to reduce .ml's influence to make defederation an easier decision for admins everywhere because of the .ml admins insistence to push their Tankie ideology through various means from censorship of views critical of Authoritarian regimes such as Russia or China (and even criticism of the right-wing)to allowing propaganda outlets (such as RT) to flourish

[-] [email protected] 2 points 18 hours ago

None of this gives you the right to ignore an artist's wishes. As I've said, your actions here are not going to endear people to your cause, which in my opinion is far more important than "making an exception" when someone has asked you not to repost their work.

[-] [email protected] -1 points 15 hours ago

Since when does copying memes go against an "artists" wishes. Is said "artist posting their own painted art or hand crafted meme? Or is it just a stock template with words on it.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 14 hours ago

Bestie, photography is art. I can't believe I have to say that out loud. Did you look at the above link? It's a photo of a bird, not a meme and certainly not a stock template.
