One employee with the word “apartheid” in their email signature, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation...

Microsoft does a ton of "buy-hires" from software tool creators, people who don't usually have that corporate mindset but crafted unique and useful windows software that Microsoft wants to integrate. I imagine that probably makes up a good portion of these.
