A place to share and enjoy music licensed as Creative Commons BY-NC-SA! This community was made out of struggles in finding music under this license, and aims to both promote works licensed as BY-NC-SA, as well as serve as a hub with resources to find music licensed as such.

Please read the rules before posting. While discussion of topics regarding BY-NC-SA music is allowed, this community's main purpose is to post and promote BY-NC-SA songs and/or albums.

The Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license allows for sharing and modification of content so long as the original work and work creator are given proper credit attribution, the work is used purely in a non-commercial sense, and that any derivative works utilise the same license.

The BY-NC-SA license is great, as it allows for creative freedom, restricts monetary usage rights, and ensures creators of works receive proper credit for their effort.

Barring commercial use of music, as BY-NC-SA does, may add a sense of genuineness to a work by assuring listeners that a work was made for passion rather than profit, and helps to prevent the works of artists from being financially exploited, especially by those they don't condone or agree with.

As with the vast majority of communities on the fediverse, here are the rules one must adhere to when participating here in NC-SA Bops:

1. Lemmy.ca instance rules apply

2. Song posts must include the following:

• Song title, artist, genre, and release year in the format:

    "Artist(s) - Song Title [genre(s)] (Year)"
  

• A link to a release page that has the BY-NC-SA license visible. Ensure that reuploads of songs are using the right licenses, and that remixes are following the rights restrictions of the original works (which unfortunately, is not often the case).

• A comment on the post if the song contains, or is likely to contain samples, as this may alter the validity of the license.

• (Optional) Tags relating to the artist or genre of the song.

3. This community is only for music licensed BY-NC-SA. Posts of music that doesn't utilize this license will be removed.

4. Posted music must either be original, or based off of other BY-NC-SA tracks. Remixes or covers of non-BY-NC-SA tracks are barred with this rule with the exception of the original work being Public Domain.

5. Posts of AI-generated music will be removed, as it is impossible to determine the rights of the music used for generation.

6. Please refrain from downvoting music that isn't to your tastes.
