Valeriano Orobón Fernández, born on this day in 1901, was a Spanish anarcho-syndicalist theoretician, trade union activist, translator, and poet who wrote the lyrics of the revolutionary song "A Las Barricadas".
Orobón believed in the organizational power of unions, believe that they would have a major role in reorganizing society in a more libertarian fashion. Orobón was also strongly opposed to the communist (i.e., Soviet) ideas in Spain during the Spanish Civil War.
Shortly before his untimely death from tuberculosis, Orobón wrote the words of "A Las Barricadas" to the tune of "Warszawianka 1905 roku", itself a well-known Polish revolutionary song. The anti-fascist tune became the anthem of the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), and one of the most popular songs of the Spanish anarchists during the Civil War.

I'll give you some credit in even attempting to try to downplay the monumental achievement of expanding humanity beyond earth, but everything you've said is either incorrect or purely subjective
They weren't racing anyone with Sputnik 1, the term 'sputnik moment' was literally coined because American's were so surprised by the achievement, because their satellite program was barley in it's infancy at the time(the US's pet project paperclip Nazis soon got to work though), and their first two attempts to launch a sattalittle post Sputnik 1 failed spectacular https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sputnik_crisis
Sputnik 1 and 2 gave us plenty of important data. Explorer 1 did not discover "a new type of radiation", it provided some evidence of radiation belts, which were later proven to exist by another satellite. Comparing how long the satellites were in orbit is silly, they are not very useful up there after you lose contact with them.
Soyuz capsules are still used to this day on the ISS(even by the US), while the space shuttle crapped out and US astronauts were stranded for 18 months had to be rescued by fucking muskrat's SpaceX this year
