The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar is a non-repeating base-20 and base-18 calendar used by several pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures, most notably the Maya. For this reason, it is often known as the Maya Long Count calendar. Using a modified vigesimal tally, the Long Count calendar identifies a day by counting the number of days passed since a mythical creation date that corresponds to August 11, 3114 BCE in the proleptic Gregorian calendar. The Long Count calendar was widely used on monuments.
Background
The two most widely used calendars in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica were the 260-day Tzolkʼin and the 365-day Haabʼ. The equivalent Aztec calendars are known in Nahuatl as the Tonalpohualli and Xiuhpohualli.
The combination of a Haabʼ and a Tzolkʼin date identifies a day in a combination which does not occur again for 18,980 days (52 Haabʼ cycles of 365 days equals 73 Tzolkʼin cycles of 260 days, approximately 52 years), a period known as the Calendar Round. To identify days over periods longer than this, Mesoamericans used the Long Count calendar.
The Long Count calendar is divided into five distinct units:
- one day - kin
- 20 days - uinal
- 360 days - tun
- 7,200 days - katun
- 144,000 days - baktun
Mesoamerican numerals
Long Count dates are written with Mesoamerican numerals, as shown on this table. A dot represents 1 while a bar equals 5. The shell glyph was used to represent the zero concept. The Long Count calendar required the use of zero as a place-holder and presents one of the earliest uses of the zero concept in history.

I fucking hate online dating
How do people have success from matching and going on dates with someone based on a few carefully selected photos and text blobs
Honestly yes I have.
Find a friend to take some good pictures. Play the game. Approach it lightheartedly, you’re just there to go on some dates and maybe get laid and maaaybe meet someone.
Worst case scenario you have a beer with someone and have a chat. It’s nice.
I actually met my last partner on bumble, though it didn’t end well lol probably should have never been in that relationship to begin with
Which partially adds to my argument. Relationships aren’t only about hooking up and that’s kind od what they’ve turned into, everything else takes a backseat. I don’t deny that people have found long-lasting relationships and even marriages with those apps, but I’m willing to say it is the exception and not the rule.
And it all stems from some fucks in Silicon Valley trying to play algorithmic matchmaker and turn dating into a queue. Who knows maybe I’ll cave and try it again later (and hopefully change my outlook) but I’m done for now.
Yeah I don't really get it. Its like looking through a catalogue for a partner. Even when I'm on a site that allows for more extended and detailed bios I still fail to really connect with anyone. And it just feels like its gotten worse with time. I used to at least have convos with people whenever I'd point something out in their bio, now it feels like no one even gives a fuck
Makes me feel a lot more pressure to make a move on my IRL connections.
It definitely feels like the vibes have shifted, doesn’t it? I think the people I do know who have had luck with those apps had that luck years ago (2018 and 2020)
c/dating was a mistake
Shotgun approach.
If they say nothing that bothers you on their profile and you think they are not repulsive looking you say. "hi we should get together and talk face to face to see if we get along" (talking online is a waste of time and just leads to building false expectations.) If they "aren't ready to meet in person" they probably never will be.
Any positive responses you follow up. Don't do classic dates. Just grab a coffee and find somewhere public where you can talk for like 20 minutes before deciding if you want to spend more time than that.
