Only because they know it doesn’t matter (ain’t even gonna get a vote in the House). This is just MAGAts trying to appear “reasonable” - don’t let them escape their history!

That's not the only reason. Canada is now in an election cycle and the current Conservative party leader aligns well with Trump. Up until these tariffs and the 51st state business, his party had a sizable lead. His main opponent is the leader of the currently in-power Liberal party and is ready to fight a trade war with the US. The opposition from the south gave them a massive boost in the polls.

You guys backing off of the tarriffs makes the Conservative party more attractive again, assuming people's memories are short enough.

I sincerely doubt it. I think that ship sailed. No amount of backtracking will erase those memories in time for the election.
