I have spent around half my life in Alberta (not there anymore). The majority of rural and poorly educated Albertans seem to mainly care about 2 things: oil and beef. It's honestly crazy how many farmers are pumping oil from their land, even within 30 minutes of major cities. And there are some extremely large scale oil operations in northern AB (Fort McMurray is kind of the main city for that).
Also, Alberta has always been super conservative (see the above paragraph on oil - no one wants to save the planet when they're getting rich). Makes sense that the more right leaning portion of them would like Trump, they are all fat racist white guys too.
