I mean, the controversy amounted to some possibly problematic coding in regards to sexuality, like all women being bisexual or some nonsense like that. I don't think it actually was about anything he said.
I do have a problem with how sexuality is currently handled in the game, because being gay or bisexual is a "trait" your pawns can have, and there are a alooooot of traits which are randomly generated and you usually get 2 or 3 max.
So I just make my pawns gay manually instead of leaving it up to chance. If there's a pawn I think vibes with another pawn but they're not gay, I just enter dev mode and hit them with gay space lasers.
Also because of how powerful relationships are, and how pawns hit on each other irrespective of sexuality gay pawns are typically bad. As they'll never get relationships, but still hit on people, giving them big negative relations with people of the same gender, this can trigger social fights which can leads to injuries. I'm pretty sure its meta to abandon gay pawns... I've had a sexuality mod downloaded that removes the traits and implements as Kinsey scale as long as I can remember.
I should get that mod...
The trait system in general has quite a few issues with it. Like, some of the traits are just "I like dogs/fishing/etc."
Dwarf fortress has an entire system where they'll be picky about the type of materials they prefer
I mean... Anecdotally... From my own lived experience just uhh... you know, not saying anything scientific or anything
