Ah, so I think in world of darkness (sometimes called classic world or old world of darkness these days) the games were less mechanically compatible.

Mage the Awakening is part of the chronicles of darkness line (originally also just called world of darkness when they thought the old world of darkness stuff was going to be fully retired), and is close to mechanically identical to other games in that line (other than the supernatural powers work very differently).

I do think mixing character types in chronicles of darkness games is still a little rough though as the themes are very different (vampire is about trying to maintain your humanity and navigating a political power structure, werewolf is about hunting monsters and balancing your human and spirit sides, mage is about dealing with academic politics and being literally addicted to learning about matic, etc) and so having a werewolf in a vampire game is almost like having a D&D adventurer in a vampire game, even if adjudicating mechanical interactions isn't too bad.
