I consider myself fairly left of center and I think we should do something about gun violence, but this is not the way to solve it.
One thing the legislators need to understand is that school shootings are crimes of obsession. A person is so obsessive and delusional about the issue that he's willing to go into excessive lengths to “make things right”. He'll find a way to get ahold of a 3D printer.
If we're talking about gangs though (most shooters don't have prior felonies to background check on), then they'll make the thing about money/scale and just get their plastic guns in other states/over the Internet.
Either way, the bill does more harm than good.
