I think originally the phrase was popularised by r/shitRedditSays, which was a sort of feminist subreddit that took the piss out of reddit's reactionary/chauvinistic culture. They would say "Don't touch the poop", meaning don't comment on the linked thread that's getting discussed.
What OP is reffering to re Chapo I don't know.
Oh I was imagining it more literally haha. I wonder what kinda poop had to be touched for it to become a whole event
