Since Luigi's 'manifest' suggested that someone like Moore would be much better positioned to make the argument that needs to be made and the news media have been hounding Moore to disavow the assassination, he decided to go ahead and write the damn thing.

he did several things wrong (allegedly) like not destroying the evidence, not bagging a second one, and (not allegedly) liking a bunch of reactionary bullshit
