Chronicle the life and tale of the fediverse (+ matrix)

Largely a sublemmy about capturing drama, from fediverse spanning drama to just lemmy drama.

Includes lore like how a instance got it's name, how an instance got defederated, how an admin got doxxed, fedihistory etc

(New) This sub's intentions is to an archive/newspaper, as in preferably don't get into fights with each other or the ppl featured in the drama

After being harassed in multiple discord channels by powermod FlyingSquid the news mod blackbeard has shuttered his account and moved to bluesky.

"The recklessness with which people downvote polite disagreements reminds me of all the worst parts of Reddit, and it proves to me that this isn't the social media savior I'd hoped it would be, and is instead just another echo chamber. I hope eventually lemmy.world (and the fediverse more broadly) can grow out of that, but some of the behavior I've seen on the inside from both mods and admins doesn't really inspire much confidence for that kind of evolution in the short term. "

FlyingSquid is the same mod who has the power to siteban people from lemmy.world

Why does lemmy.world keep having issues with their powermods and admins? Why do powermods get the ability to siteban their enemies from the largest instance?

Okay whatever part of this reddit clone you operate then, the sub where you talked about being a mod was on there.

You literally made it your job to care about internet points and bans and shit for free. I happen to enjoy talking about federation software including ActivityPub as well as FOSS and its political side.

Internet moderators are universally understood to be the lowest humans on the chain of being, beneath even investment bankers.

It is a natural criticism of this software to point out the way people import antifeatures like voting from corporate social media, the cargo cult effect essentially, as well as the failure of FOSS projects to enable people to avoid advertisements or reactionary political propaganda. Lemmy still gives a bullhorn to the views of the ruling class because it is primarily frequented by middle class tech workers, who are the most heavily saturated by US/EU/SK/Aus/Japan propaganda, the papers associated with the leaders of the world financial system. This is a valid criticism of open source projects. Open platforms with zero protection like this practically criticize themselves. Mocking people who take these sites seriously is enjoyable for its own sake, to answer your question.

Awww… you downvoted me! I thought they don’t matter?

Sorry for hurting your feelings. Votes and reactions are relevant when it is easily distinguishable what they really mean. When it is as easy as a few button presses for someome on Reddit or Lemmy to impersonate different people, and votes are anonymous, they lose all value for convincing people. Same goes for the obviously fake vote counts on Reddit's front page. You'd have to be a fool to think those numbers are real.

When manipulation is likely, getting downvoted a bunch means you're doing something right. You can assume anyone who upvotes you when you are being critical of something has no reason to do so.

Let's say it is less likely for people to be manipulating stuff, if you know you're pissing off people who have values opposed to yours, or for instance a Discord full of loser manchild liberals, it should be taken like I said as an angry emoji react.

If you really want to upset me, you would have to refute something I am saying. Childish insults and pedantic nonsense and downvotes won't work. And I know you desperately want to upset me. You got so worked up about what I said and you didn't even know what I meant.

I read your entire comment, and I just realized that you're amazing at word vomit.

4.5 paragraphs to say "votes don't matter, except when they do, but I don't care, except when I do"

We get it. you're edgy. Good for you. Votes can be whatever you want them to be. Me? I look at mod logs. Why? That's where I see the bad shit someone did. You? You're meh. Not horrible, but not someone I'd have a drink with. More likely someone I'll forget in 2 minutes.

Why would I want to upset you? I don’t care about you.

I just happen think these walls of text you make to illustrate how little you care are incredibly ironic.

Don’t you?
