What is it about the 60s that makes the laps so fast? Did they just switch tires, or get more gas, or it's the end of the tank so they're lighter, or what?

There are several reasons
This is totally an aside but I didn't get bullet points at all from your post π€ I wonder if that's a lemmy problem or a sync problem
It's a sync problem ~~I guess~~ because lemmy-ui (the default UI developed by the Lemmy devs) and Photon (Lemmy client website) and Voyager (Lemmy client app) all show the bullet points properly
I see the bullets in the Connect app as well.
Less fuel in the cars is usually the main one (i.e. they're lighter), could also be drier conditions and more rubber on the track.
