Pratchett's DEATH is quite fond of cats. Maybe because they're one of the only mortal creatures with whom HE can carry on a full conversation. Rincewind always runs away, and even HIS near-Vimes experience was too brief.

Well, he could talk to his adopted granddaughter, but who does that?

I always felt he only took on an apprentice to have someone to talk to.

Oh yeah, the super sorcerer that didn't want to die. I seriuosly never understood why DEATH keeps him around.

Maybe he wants to prove to Albert that he genuinely wants to die after being a servant for several millenia?
