Oh c'mon. We're clearly over the line. Several climate tipping points are in the rear view as of the last few weeks. Whether the AMOC has/is about to flip is so far an unanswered question to my knowledge, but we're clearly looking at 3 to 7 tipping points being passed just recently. Cascading failure is here. One domino is gonna knock down another is going to knock down another. I'm kinda tired of these articles making this out to be a what-if, maybe we can still do something about it, if only we could get our asses together... blah, blah, blah...
No one's asses are getting together. The folks running the show don't fucking care. We're fucked. We're just waiting to die, now.
Yup. Already started in poorer nations with impoverished people. Next will be coastal communities/islands as the oceans rise and hurricanes batter them non-stop.
After that the shipping lanes will be fucked up by abnormal storms, prices will go through the roof and riots will start everywhere as people starve.
The next decade is gonna be a shit show like humans have never faced before.
The solution? Blocking traffic with placards in hand.
Not lynching CEO's. Never that.
Get your rope then. Be the change and all that.
I agree, but I think we should pay more attention to the tipping point of not getting our asses together.
Taking action requires massive and global changes to the way society works and the way governments interact at both small scales (federal, regional, municipal) and large (treaties, international law, knowledge transfer, wealth management). We cannot fix the climate without first fixing society.

On reflection, I think the real tipping point was c. 1980 with Thatcher (there is no such thing as society), elected in 1979, and Reagan (government is the problem, not the solution), inaugurated in 1981. Everything flows from the policies and societal structures they created and destroyed. For 30 years we've been taking for granted that the society they and others like them forged is just how things work. And we're still actively moving the wrong direction.
This is why I won’t have children. The only way to stop this or even slow it down is to starve the capitalist beast of the exploitable labour it thrives on. Unions can help this by making the labour less exploitable, but that’s a whole other conversation.
Also, I’m too nice to put a child through the shit we’re about to go through.
