What makes this any different from all the previous disgusting comments he's made about veterans?

No difference in tone or intent but a difference in that he's flailing and losing support, so this may add to that. Otherwise reasonable people were being drawn back in to trumpnon the basis that biden is too old. Their eyes are opening to trumps failings, that were already there to see, but not everyone was paying attention.
