Got slugged for a $7.90 EastLink toll this afternoon because, unlike my journey to the destination, I forgot to specify 'no tolls' on Google maps on the journey home. Lesson learned. Got me thinking about getting a tag thingy though.
I've got a tag but I still check the tolls/no tolls prices/times. Sometimes it's worth the fee to save the time, often I'm driving home late at night and it's like 5 minutes difference for $12.
Oh wow, are there variable prices?
A begrudging credit to EastLink tho, at least their tollway is smooth sailing and not the clusterfuck that is the M11 Pen Link, which I spend a lot of time on
Hey, it's fixed prices but variable traffic. My above point was referencing the cost of the North-West to South-East run coming back from say Castlemaine to Springvale which is about $12, rather than the eastlink costs which are about $6-7 if you use the melba tunnel.
Sorry my point was unclear. Fixed prices but variable traffic. If I'm not driving in peak hours, I'll compare the time of the toll/no-toll roads vs the cost. Often no tolls is only a smidge longer and is free so I'll take that late at night.
