How would you transition this?

Marble outdoor to internal hardwood. House built in the 60's and i just spent ages clearing up old carpet tack and cement some dickhead had slapped over the floorboards.
It's not even, but hangs around 3cm difference between flooring surfaces. The surrounding walls are original bullnose sideboards in spectacular condition, so would like to be sympathetic.
Ideas? Suggestions?
(Yes i'm treating the rot and putting in a moisture break between the cement and wood)
If the step up isn't an issue, I'd just cut something along the lines of a hardwood strip/veneer that matches the flooring as much as possible, and covers up the ugly cement under the polished marble. Try and make it look like the polished marble is a layer on top of the hardwood, perhaps?
Honestly, when you're transitioning completely different materials like this, there's no gentle way to do it, IMHO.
