Overall good. I went out on a date night with my wife last night. I did drink too much and I'm very tired now, but that might just me being old. I am excited to watch the new X-Men 97 later. I haven't been this excited about a cartoon in a long time.
Does one need to have watched the original X-Men to appreciate the new one? I started '97 last night and it began by explaining the death of a certain character, which I was taken aback by. I turned it off and figured I should watch the original first.
No you don't need to watch the original first. You will miss a bunch of Easter eggs, but it does take away from the show.
If you really want to, you can watch the season finale and it will explain the spoiler that made you stop watching. I do recommend watch the original series, but it isn't needed.
