Redgif links all show as "failed to load media" both in the feed and when viewing the post. The only way to view the these links is to leave the app and open the post in a browser.

I remember they worked for a while so perhaps Voyager just needs a new API key or something.

Example (NSFW)

Is there a way to hide entire servers instead of specific communities from the Voyager app or anywhere on Lemmy? I have to keep up my hardboiled business facade and am sick of blocking each new community on ani.social...

Hi, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but when I try to crosspost from communities on other instances (ie. Lemmy.ml/c/linux) to communities on my instance (sh.itjust.works/c/linux), the local community does not appear as an option. Even when I try to type in the fully qualified community name it will not show up.

This does not seem to happen with every community, and I think maybe it has something to do with a large number of results truncating smaller communities from the list?

If anyone has a workaround or can help me understand how to crosspost better, I'd much appreciate it.

Voyager takes after the Apollo app in this regard, where if the app is closed while text is being edited, it'll bring back the unsaved draft, but it'll pop that into the next reply window you open, even if it is a different thread entirely.

Being able to reopen the same thread and resume editing would make it much easier if you're switching to another app to look up a reference or a link, and Voyager gets destroyed by the OS. It'd also help refresh your context if you can't remember what it was you were writing and why.

My preferences keep getting reset to the defaults. Not sure why - it’s not just when the app updates, or when it’s booted from memory.

Kind of a pain to go through and redo my gestures and appearance settings every week or two.

No field at the bottom to input text, yet I am able to from my other account. I don’t think I’ve been bad enough to be blocked/banned from messaging admins. I’ve never even had to before. So, I can’t see why they’d shut me out.

Is this account just bugged out? I have issues with comment notifications as well. Tried logging out and back in. Didn’t fix.

And again, my other account is perfectly fine.

In some subs, when I sort by new, it doesn't sort by new. In fact changing sort doesn't seem to do anything at all. I go into a sub and I sort by new and I see: 9 months, 2 years, 12 hours, less than 1 hour, 3 years. It doesn't seem to be sorted by anything.

8

I’m not receiving any comment notifications on this account at all. The comments are there, but the notification doesn’t show. I have to go to my own comments and then check to see if anyone responded in order to see anything.

Basically what the title says. Sometimes something is removed, rightly or wrongly, but its removal diminishes the comments below it. The capability is already in Lemmy and it would be nice to see if one chooses to, but I can accept that the feature could promote toxic behavior.

Is there any way to filter out the automod listings? It’s obnoxious and is cluttering the feed. I’ve tried blocking the bot, but it still shows.

Ban - ban removal - ban - ban removal. All day.

Can this be stopped?

Since it is possible to choose a language for posts from the web, it would be good to do the same in the app. It would help if in the future, an automatic translation system is integrated.

12

If I go to ban a user, it shows successful in the app, but no mod logs will show the user banned, and they’re able to continue to post- after a ban via Voyager app

I have to go outside of voyager to do any ban moderation. Has this always been a thing?

EDIT: it seems it works fine for permanent bans. But not for temporary bans.

Update: There's any existing bug report:

https://github.com/aeharding/voyager/issues/1602

Original post:

Fellow voyagers,

For several weeks now I've been having Android keyboard issues when using the Voyager app and I'm just trying to figure out if it's a me thing, or a voyager thing.

I use Gboard as my default keyboard, and I've noticed that when creating a post, or replying to a post by selecting a reply icon, the keyboard isn't raised into focus automatically. Once I manually select the input field, a completely crippled Gboard keyboard pops up. The keyboard defaults to lower case lettering, has no spell check or predictive text, and doesn't support any gestures, such as swipe backspace.

If I then bring up the input method selection menu, it shows that Gboard is already selected. If I select Gboard again, or even just back out of the input method popup without selecting anything, a proper working version of Gboard now appears, with predictive text, swipe gestures, etc.

If I reply to a comment by swiping left, the keyboard is immediately brought into focus and works as expected. Same goes for editing a comment. The issue only seems to appear when selecting a Reply icon, initiating a reply from the 3-dot menu, or when creating a new post.

I can consistently repeat this every time, and it is only happening for me within the Voyager app.

  • Voyager v2.18.2 (app.vger.voyager)
  • Gboard v14.6.03.665297282-release-arm64-v8a (com.google.android.inputmethod.latin)

Any thoughts?

Edit: I found the related post here from last month. It sounds like it might be related to GrapheneOS, but it's strange that it only happens within Voyager. I'm wondering if Voyager is triggering input in a way that is contrary to GOS' hardened security.

When in Large Text Mode, information is truncated with ellipses "..." Here's a proposal for a better solution, which might help in regular text mode also.

Using Large Text Mode

In the feed we see posts appear like this:

The community appears as "green..."

This could show the full community name and post username, allowing line wrap, followed by a newline and the counts on the next line.

So instead of

O green...
^ 433 v 1 O 100% O 8h

This could instead show

O [email protected]
by user@instance
^ 433 v 1 O 100% O 8h

Yes allowing line wrap might break the text at non-whitespace characters, but I think that would still be ok. E.g.

O [email protected]
st.works by user@instance
^ 433 v 1 O 100% O 8h

Similarly when entering post and comment view

This could instead show

O [email protected]
by user@instance
^ 433 v 1 O 100% O 8h

Then when viewing the comments

Rather than:

psycho_... ^ 14 v 0 ... 5h

You could again allow line wrap and add a newline between the user name and the vote counts.

This could instead read:

psycho_whatever@instance
                       ^ 14 v 0 ... 5h

This should still be okay for wrapping long user names that don't wrap on whitespace characters. E.g.

some_long_user_name@so
me_long_instance_name
                       ^ 14 v 0 ... 5h

Also user profiles do not render well in Large Text mode.

Love the current icons, but would also always love to see some more!

Comment linked for example, and I’ll attach a screenshot below. Having an embedded link following an image seems to append the image’s instance to the start of the embedded link. The link is a 12ft.io link, but Voyager is automatically appending “lemmy.world” to the start of the link.

Could also potentially be an issue with 12ft.io links specifically, but I have seen it a few times with other links too.

FYI I'm on an instance that is slow to federate stuff from lemmy.world accounts, I may not see your reply for some time.

Seems to be working for me now. Perhaps others can let us know if it happens again and remember to grab a crash report just in case.

Every now and then I want to download some video I see in Lemmy to share with my friends but I click in download video but it seems to not work. Is it possible to download videos using Voyager?

Sorry if this is the wrong place but I haven’t been able to find an answer.

If you are browsing (all, local…) and go to your subscribed communities, is there a way to resume where you were or is it always a refresh?

Edit: iOS mobile to be specificish

The app hardly ever keeps my place in the feed when I exit it and come back to it after a while, and then I'd go hunting for where I was. My phone has 16GB of RAM, so that's plenty.

Basically, when the app crashes while commenting, it recovers the text you had written out.. but then dumps you back to the main feed with that just in your clipboard, waiting for you to comment on the next post and go “oh yeah, crap” because you can’t find the post and go back to browsing.

When hide read posts is functioning as intended (which it hasn’t been for a while and may be related to version..? Idk how it works, and that’s not the point of this anyway), you shouldn’t even be able to find the post you would have replied to, and unless it’s from a community you follow, you’ll never find it again.

Maybe this is too much to ask; I’m not a programmer so I don’t know what I’m asking, but it would be super great when the app crashes to not only preserve the text, but maybe provide a link back to the post it was being made under (not necessarily the exact comment, but the parent post would help a ton). I’ve just sort of given up on long comments I spent a lot of time formatting because the app crashed and I couldn’t find the post I was replying to. And that’s really frustrating.

23

As it stands, If I want to view a post in the browser, I can use the ‘Copy’ option which gives me the comment or post’s URL and have to manually launch the browser, paste, and go.

So not the end of the world or anything, but a little annoying on the rare occasions I want to use it.

For some communities, I cannot see some recent posts.
I find them in Local or All tab but when I click on the community, it disappears. Sometimes, I miss weeks of posts! I removed all blocked communities and instances just in case.

Is this a known issue?

Edit: I also checked the Mark read/Hide setting. Everything was unchecked and I tried disabling hiding in communities with no success.

Edit 2: Fixed! There is setting on the web interface to "Show read posts", I left it unchecked.
