More than 100 venomous snakes have been captured in a backyard in Sydney's west in what snake catchers said was their biggest find ever.

The home owners at Horsley Park noticed snakes disappearing into a mulch pile on their property over the past two weeks.

Reptile Relocation Sydney owner Cory Kerewaro said his snake catchers were called to the property last Friday after the owner's dog was bitten.

The water supply for Terrigal, North Avoca, Avoca Beach, Copacabana, MacMasters Beach, Picketts Valley, Erina, Erina Heights and Kincumber is affected.

Not Sydney, obviously, but I figured this comm is the closest.

The SMH published this article today about a proposed 'change' to the road rules:

“The solution is simple,” Pieglowski said of an idea he is championing at next week’s Sydney Summit, inspired by his son’s question: change traffic rules so anyone travelling along the main road – either walking, cycling or driving – has the right of way, and anyone wanting to intercept is forced to give way. It’s what he describes as “an imaginary zebra crossing on every road and intersection”.

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't this already the rule? There are diagrams in Australian Road Rules reg 72 and reg 73 that seem to show pretty clearly a driver already has to give way in this situation.

The SMH article later says:

The change would mean pedestrians walking in the same direction of traffic as the roads would, when approaching an intersection, have a green pedestrian light for as long as drivers get a green light.

But it seems like this is usually the case anyway, except that the pedestrian light will change to 'flashing red' earlier than the motor traffic light goes orange, because it takes longer for pedestrians to move through the intersection.

Am I just totally missing what is being proposed here?

On Saturday the 25th of January, an Aboriginal inmate was bashed by the Corrective Services Immediate Action Team at Long Bay Correctional Centre.

After being tear-gassed and beaten by officers, he sustained head lacerations, a broken eye socket, broken ribs and ankle

It has been reported that he has not received any medical treatment for the past 5 days nor has he eaten anything since the incident,

This is inhuman behavior and unjustified. Withholding basic medical care and general health needs like food, nutrition and hydration is against the basic human rights.

The family will be attending this weekend on Saturday to protest and demand the end to brutalization in custody.

A popular beach on Sydney Airport’s doorstep has been quietly closed to swimming and fishing due to fears it is contaminated with cancer-causing “forever chemicals”.

However, families with young children continue to splash in the water alongside top racehorses and this week fishermen were seen casting their lines into Tower Beach, on the Botany Bay foreshore.
