When I was at school in Germany, when my children were at school, learning about the events surrounding the Nazis' seizure of power and the atrocities committed by the nationalists was part of the curriculum as a matter of course. As a teenager and now as an adult, the question always remained: How could this happen? Did people really just go along with it? This question was agonizing for decades because there seemed to be no answer.

Now, after the first few months of Trump's second term in office and several examples, such as the arrest of student Rumeysa Öztürk by hooded police officers and the deportations by ICE, all questions have been answered for me as a German: The Germans at the time took pleasure in exercising power over the weak. The Germans are each guilty in their own right. There was no ignorance, they participated, some more, some less.

And this is what happens in the US these days: Citizens fight citizens. The policeman who abducts a fellow citizen while wearing a mask is also a citizen. A judge who allows injustice to become law is also a citizen. The civil war has long since begun.

The resistance against injustice in Germany should have been much stronger than the force that those who committed injustice mustered. I don't know if you have the strength to defeat your enemies. But I wish you all the luck in the world.

How many other people are sitting on their hands because "enough people will show up"?

If you CAN go to the protest this Saturday, GO. Don't think to yourself, "enough people will be there, me being there doesn't matter." If you're considering not going, GO. Get out there, join the others in your state capitol and all across America.

Go for the people who CAN'T go but would if they could - like people who have to work (hi! that's me! ugh), or the people who are disabled and can't go, or for people who have small children and nobody to take care of them.

Just GO. Go for people who can't go. Go for yourself. Go because nobody else is going to go in your stead. Go because it's the right thing to do.

America depends on you. Yes, YOU. And me, and everyone else fighting back. There's no sitting at home this time.

Hi everyone, just wanted to send a message of support from across the ocean! There are solidarity protests currently being organized for this Saturday in Berlin and Frankfurt by Americans living in Germany, and the mobilize.us map shows several more protests planned in Portugal, France, and the UK: https://www.mobilize.us/map/ I'm certain there will be even more, since the German protest organizers are still waiting for approval for their events to appear on the map.

Americans abroad, see if a protest is happening near you! We're just getting started!

  1. Susan Crawford won the Wisconsin State Supreme Court race and Edolf wasted $25M.

  2. Cory Booker beat the filibuster length record and protested the administration by going off for over 25 hours. Call him and thank him!! You can call any senator or rep at (202) 224-3121 and ask for them by name.

This might be downvoted but here goes. white people need to be at the forefront and act as shields at these protests when there are POC present. Sorry. Not sorry. The white power / white nationalism movement is a white people problem to solve, especially considering 56% of white people voted Trump. White people have to take the lead on this because the real physical dangers are first and foremost to POC.

See y'all on April 5th guys!

Watching the senator stand for so long, give real, raw emotion to his speech, and his call for the American People to rise up and take action really friggin got me today.

I drive by a planned parenthood every now and then and there are ALWAYS people with anti-abortion signs outside of it. I knew I’d be driving by it again today.

And I knew I had had enough of it.

I made a sign during my lunch break - My Body. My Choice - and then promptly showed up after work. I stood by myself with my sign across from the anti-abortion schmucks.

When they tried to engage / argue, I chanted as loud as I could over them “MY BODY. MY CHOICE”

When traffic died down and it was quieter, I chanted as loud as I could in their direction “MY BODY. MY CHOICE”

Sometimes I added a little fun flare by following up my chant with “and if anyone says otherwise they are a FASCIST BASTARD”

Those fascists didn’t know what to do lmaoooo they packed up early.

Someone randomly walked up to me to ask if they could join me the next time I counter protest, and said they will bring friends too. I also got to let him know about 50501 and some local organizing groups in the community!

It just takes one person. Because then another shows up. Then another. And before you know it, we’ve got millions in every corner of our beautiful nation rising up, saying NO MORE.

I think it’s important to share these stories. Even if not an “official” 50501 protest, I still felt all of you with me, spanning far and wide across the nation.

Love and solidarity. Let’s make April 5th unforgettable!!!

Full quote from the livestream a few minutes ago:

"I was challenged by my own constituents to do something different, challenged by my own constituents to do something, challenged by my own constituents to take risks."

Keep calling your Democratic representation, if you have any. Keep pushing them to make the changes we need--like changing our congressional leadership--when they drag their feet, and thank them when they move in the right direction. Believe it or not, many of these people do care what their constituents care enough to repeatedly, consistently contact them about.

Yes, this is ultimately a performative action. But at a time when so many are complying in advance, public officials standing up and setting an example is important.

So there is the recent news that f-Elon will "step down" from Doge come May. While I am 100% that's just performative since he is the shadow president. He has already done massive damage to innocent people's lives.

I guess I just want to make sure we're all on the same page. We will still protest his business correct? He will undoubtedly still be meddling in the government and regardless I feel like we have a duty to keep up the pressure. Thoughts?

Not only did this man just speak for 24 hours and 18+ minutes straight in scathing rebuke of this administration and eloquence describing WHY we oppose it, but the last half hour was just about as inspiring a feat of articulation as I’ve seen in politics in my half century on Earth.

Senator Corey Booker, thank you for DOING SOMETHING MEANINGFUL. To the 50501 fam, take it to the streets, people. The time is NOW.
