Not directly related to Hytale but I thought this was a pretty good read. We already know most of this but it's nice to hear the perspective of somebody that is actually in those investor meetings and hearing them talk about AI and replacing creators. Very disgusting stuff.

Pre-Release Patch Notes - January 29, 2026

Enable via Launcher → Settings → Pre-Release

MAP & NAVIGATION

  • User-placed Map Markers have been added!
    • Create custom markers anywhere on your map with customizable names, icons, and colors
    • Share markers with other players in multiplayer
    • New gameplay settings to toggle marker visibility on map and compass
    • Delete markers via the map context menu
  • Updated map marker icons and improved their display resolution
  • Player names are now always rendered on the map and are more readable when zoomed in
  • Compass now shows different icons based on vertical distance (above/below you)

I was out looking for more thorium and went down a hole I found between an Azure Forest and some ice. There was no ~~thorium~~ cobalt to be found, so I started to dig up out of the cave system. I encountered some tam blocks, sandstone maybe, and copper. I was unable to mine either. I tried with my ~~thorium~~ cobalt pickaxe, as well as a crude pickaxe I had found.

They show no signs of being struck. Also the bald head is gone again.

I'm using the Hardwood Fence to build pens for animals, but they all seem to hop right over them unless I build the fence two high. Anyone else having this problem? What am I doing wrong?

I decided to improve my outdoor crafting area and possibly enclose it. I tore down my tier 5 farmer's workbench to put cobblestone under it, and when I replaced it, it is now tier 1.

I really hope the developers change this. Having a different avatar for each world or server I play on just seems like a no-brainer to me. I'm sure the devs are planning to implement this sooner or later.....right??

We are looking for players to help us test the Hytale Pre-Release first update via the launcher!

Of course, it's a Minecraft-like game so I decided to mod it ASAP. It's been a little over 2 days and people are already making incredible stuff! Here are some mods I'm playing with that I would totally recommend.

  • Mining Hammers - Adds hammers that can mine 3x3 blocks
  • Ymmersive Melodies - Adds instruments that let you play any MIDI file
  • The Pickaxes Place Torches - Lets you place torches by right clicking when holding a pickaxe
  • Simply Trash - Adds a trash can you to quickly dispose of items
  • Wayback Charm - A craftable item that instantly teleports you home
  • JEI Lumenia - Lets you browse every item in the game and see data on each one, including how to craft them.
  • HideArmor - A command that lets you hide your armor
  • BetterMap - Various important improvements to the world map
  • Leather+ - Lets you convert leather between different tiers. Nigh essential considering medium leather is too rare.

Hytale has been out for almost 10 hours now! What does everyone think of the game so far?

My thoughts:

  • Surprisingly polished and stable, even on Linux. I expected way worse - but it doesn't seem as early as I thought it was.
  • Love how many building options there are, the block workbench allowing you to turn most blocks into cut versions of it is awesome. Roof tiles are very cool as well.
  • Combat seems way too easy, at least in the first two zones. It seems you can just 100% block any damage source without consequence. It felt weird that I could just tank a polar bear then attack it whenever it's not attacking. Definitely something the team can work on.
  • I'm excited for world generation v2 that the devs talked about, since the current map is a bit too flat and predictable.
  • Having a map is nice but some people pointed out that it shows you WAY too much of the world around you, kind of making exploration unnecessary considering you can just open the map and see all the biomes around you.
